Equine
A thermal imaging survey of your horse is a necessary diagnostic tool to have as part of your equine health care and maintenance routine. An infrared camera detects heat at a much higher sensitivity than your own sense of touch. This special camera will detect surface heat, process that energy data, and then present it as a photo image for your use. Here is a partial listing, with sample photos we have taken, of common IR applications that demonstrate how equine thermal imaging can greatly benefit the equine community.

Pre-purchase Survey |
Saddle Fitting |
Saddle fitting: An infrared camera will reveal the warm and cool spots along a horse’s back after a riding session. This can help you discern both your riding balance and the nature of your saddle’s fit for your horse.
|
Hoof problems: Whether it is a poorly fitted shoe, injury to the hoof or other hoof disorders, a good thermal image of a hoof can help both you and your farrier zero in on the part of the hoof that is injured or inflamed. This ability |

Post-injury Recovery |
Post-injury recovery: A thermal imaging camera can look at an injured area of surface tissue and show how the area impacted is recovering. You
will be able to see the extent of the injury and whether or not the injured area is reducing over time. |
Overall health: An annual or semi-annual survey will give you and your vet an idea of the general condition of your horse. An IR survey will reveal unusually warm/cool areas. The camera can zero in on questionable areas and direct a more precise examination of any areas that indicate a need for a closer look.
