Home Energy Audits
Is your home heating/cooling the great Carolina outdoors? We can help.
Freedom Earthworks, LLC through FreedomIR utilizes state of the art thermal imaging to locate the many possible sources of energy loss in a home. Reducing energy consumption is good for the environment and it is good for a homeowner’s wallet. When you $ave energy you $ave money. Thermography may be used to diagnose energy loss or conduction from a building envelope. Among other things an IR camera can be used to check for missing, damaged or improperly installed insulation, hidden water damage, air infiltration around doors, windows and along outside walls.
In this first photo (thermogram) you can see very clearly the effect of missing attic insulation following the installation of a new HVAC unit. The insulation next to the air handler of the return duct system was not replaced and the heat signature stands out. This was costing the unaware homeowner money. When shown this photo the homeowner immediately went up into the attic. He found the missing insulation nearby, where it had been tossed aside during the HVAC work, and was able to reinstall it himself.

Home Energy Audit | In this second thermogram you can again clearly see missing insulation in the attic space above a living room.
The owners of this home were surprised to find these gaps in their insulation installation. They were also pleased to find a source of wasted energy that they could quickly remedy. |
This third thermogram is of an attic folding staircase access door. It was improperly sealed and the summertime heat entering the living space is obvious. When the HVAC was running it was pulling in the hot air from the attic space into the living areas. This not only made the room unnecessarily warmer it also forced the HVAC unit to run longer (wasting energy) to cool this warmer air. These are just a few examples of energy waste that could be costing you money.

Thermal Imaging | This final thermogram shows a service panel in a home. One breaker is notably warmer than adjacent breakers of similar amp rating and load . An IR survey can help locate problems before they become a costly repair item. |
